Infill keeps turf standing, cushioned and stable. Here are the common types and where each makes sense.
Infill is the material spread between the blades of artificial turf. It weighs the turf down, keeps the blades standing, protects the backing from sun and gives a bit of cushion. Without it, turf would look flat and shift around. The type you choose changes how the turf feels, how hot it gets and how it handles pets.
Silica sand is the common, economical choice for lawns. Antimicrobial coated sand helps control bacteria and odors in pet areas. Zeolite absorbs ammonia and is popular around dog runs. Crumb rubber is used in some athletic fields but is not usually recommended for lawns or pet areas. We choose the infill by use, climate and budget, and we explain how much to expect to refresh over the years.
