Keep it simple
Turf is not maintenance-free, but it is close. A few easy habits do most of the work. The goal is to keep the fibers upright, the infill level and the surface free of organic debris.
Small, regular attention beats occasional big cleanups.
Remove debris
Leaves, twigs and pollen collect in the fibers. A leaf blower on low speed or a plastic rake clears them. Organic debris breaks down and feeds weeds and odors, so do not let it pile up.
Pull weeds that sprout in the infill as soon as you see them.
Brush the fibers
A stiff push broom or power brush stands the blades up and evens the infill, especially in high-traffic lanes. Brush against the direction of the pile.
Do it every few weeks, or whenever the turf looks flat.
Rinse and spot clean
Rinse with a hose to wash away dust and spills. Mild soap and water handle most stains. Avoid harsh solvents, and do not use a pressure washer on high setting.
For gum, harden it with ice and lift it off.
Pet areas
Pick up solids promptly. Rinse urine areas thoroughly and use an enzyme-based cleaner on a regular basis. Refresh antimicrobial infill when odors return.
Pet areas may need more frequent attention in summer.
Check seams and edges
Look at seams and borders each season. A small lifting corner is easy to fix, and a large one is not. Report problems early to your installer.
Keep sharp objects, grills and fires away from turf.
Blow, brush and rinse on a regular schedule and fix small edge problems before they grow.
