A tough, fast-spreading warm-season lawn for full sun, high traffic and a crisp, athletic look.
Bermuda grass loves heat and sun. It spreads quickly across the surface by runners, repairs itself after hard use and makes the tight, fine-bladed turf you see on golf courses and ball fields. For a sunny Nashville yard with kids, dogs, and regular games, it is one of the toughest options you can choose. It tolerates drought, wakes up fast in late spring and fills in bare spots on its own.
The trade-off is that Bermuda turns tan and goes dormant in winter and needs full sun to thrive. If that suits your yard and your taste, it can be a wonderful lawn. We install it in late spring and early summer when it grows fastest, prepare the soil carefully and explain mowing height, fertilizing and the cooler-season dormancy so there are no surprises. We also help you decide whether Bermuda, zoysia or fescue fits your property best.
Bermuda needs six to eight hours of direct sun. In shade it thins out, so we check your light before we recommend it.
It spreads by runners and above-ground stems, so bare areas fill in and play damage heals quickly.
It turns tan after the first hard frosts and greens up again in spring. Some owners love the cycle and some do not.
Bermuda is kept short, often one to two inches, which gives that crisp, striped finish when mowed regularly.
