Real grass or synthetic? Here is how they compare on cost, care, comfort, heat and the environment.
Natural sod is alive. It cools the air, feels soft, supports soil life and costs less to install. It also needs water, mowing, feeding and weed control, and it struggles in deep shade, heavy traffic and clay mud. Artificial turf is made of plastic fibers over a stone base. It stays green without water and works in shade and on slopes, but it costs more up front, can get hot in direct sun and does not support soil life.
Neither is a clear winner. The better choice depends on how you use the yard, how much time and water you want to spend and your values. Many yards use both: sod where it thrives and turf where it does not. We compare lifetime costs, bring samples for you to see and feel and give honest recommendations, even when that means a smaller job.
