Thicken a thin lawn with fresh seed worked into the soil, the fall routine that keeps fescue dense and weed-resistant.
Tall fescue grows in clumps and does not spread, so over time a lawn gets thinner, especially after hot summers. Thin lawns invite weeds, which move into every open patch. Overseeding adds new plants to fill the gaps and keeps the turf dense. It is the least expensive way to renew a lawn, and for fescue owners it is a routine part of the year.
We do it the right way. We mow low, aerate or slit-seed so seed sits in contact with the soil, spread a quality seed blend at the right rate, add starter fertilizer and give you a watering schedule. Slit seeding cuts small grooves and drops seed into them, which gives better results than tossing seed on top. Early fall is the best time, when soil is warm, nights are cool and weeds are slowing down.
Seed on top of thatch rarely germinates. Aeration and slit seeding place it where it can root.
We use improved turf-type tall fescue seed blends with good disease resistance, not bargain mixes full of filler.
September and October give seedlings warm soil and cool air, with little competition from summer weeds.
New seed must stay damp until it sprouts and roots. We give a short, specific schedule.

You tell us about your yard and what you want, a new lawn, a fix for a worn one or a turf area, and we set a visit that fits your day.
We walk the property, measure each area, check sun, shade, soil and drainage and take photos of anything of note.
We explain your options for sod, turf or both, and give you a written scope with quantities, timing and clear pricing.
We mark utilities, remove old turf, set the grade, loosen and improve the soil and build the base before anything new goes down.
We lay sod in tight, staggered rows or install turf over a compacted stone base, with clean edges and tight seams.
We clean up, roll or brush the surface, walk you through the watering and care plan and set a reminder for your next check.
For fescue, a light overseeding each fall keeps the lawn thick. Heavier seeding is for thin or damaged areas.
Early fall is ideal. Spring seeding works but faces more weed competition and summer heat.
Aeration opens the soil so seed has contact and roots can grow down.
Fescue usually sprouts in seven to fourteen days and fills in over several weeks.
Most pre-emergent herbicides stop seed from sprouting, so timing matters. We plan around it.
